What Is Community Learning and Living?

Yooralla’s Community Learning and Living Service is designed to support adults with a disability to enjoy the lifestyle of their choice, in the environment of their choice. We work with you to develop the skills and resources you need for an independent life. We can be your personal training and network service and assist you in exploring ways of achieving your goals and independence. We can help you in any of the following areas:

Adult Therapy
Therapy can benefit you, whether your disability is physical, sensory or cognitive. Our Therapists work in practical situations, overcoming everyday problems that can range form mobility, eating and swallowing, communication, specialised equipment needs and home modification designs. The Therapy team can help you to remain independent in your home and in your community.
Mobility & Public Transport Training
Training in this area enables you to get out and about. With practice and the right support you can feel confident enough to catch a train, taxi or bus.
Transitional Living Service
This service assists people to prepare to independently move into their own home in the community.
Making A Real Home
Living independently can be tremendously satisfying. Learning to shop, cook, plan a budget and all the other things required to manage your household can be achieved with us.
Education
This is a big step. If you are interested in pursuing an education or further developing literacy, we can support you in expanding your educational goals.
Technology
Computers and technology are rapidly becoming a way of life. We can introduce you to the computer and basic computer programs including Internet and email.
Pre Vocational and Work Education
If you want to explore employment opportunities we are able to assess and develop a plan to assist you with your employment goals.
Having A Say
This program is about speaking up for yourself, and learning how to become actively involved in issues that affect your daily life. We can help you become more assertive, develop leadership skills as well as provide a service link to advocacy.
Community Education
We conduct education sessions, facilitate workshops and conduct courses on independent living, as well as a range of other disability topics and issues.
Consumer Directed Projects
We also work with adults by developing interesting projects. If you have an idea please contact us.

Become part of our Disability Network - are you a provider of education programs in the community? If so, talk to us about our Professional Development Sessions.

Eligibility

We specialise in working with moderate to severe physical, sensory and/or cognitive disabilities living in the community. However, if you have any other type of disability just give us a call and we will explore how best we can assist you.

Referral and Application

You must complete a request form. We are happy to post, fax or email this form. Once your request is received, your name is placed on a waiting list. A letter of acknowledgment will then be sent to you informing you that your request has been received. We will review your request and one of our staff will organise a visit to discuss your request and together we can determine how best to assist you. Once a service has been agreed upon, you will receive a service contract outlining what services you can expect to receive. A review of this contract can be discussed at any time as per your request.

Fees

For non-funded clients there is no fee for our direct service. Fees apply for clients with individual funding to purchase their service (such as Futures for Young Adults, Support and Choice and HomeFirst) but these may be negotiated. Clients may be charged a small fee for courses and workshops. Assessments conducted may incur a minor fee.
